Closing the
fusion fuel-cycle

Turning Fusion into
Practical Power

Fusion Mantle develops fuel-cycle technology that captures the energy of fusion neutrons and breeds the tritium a power plant needs to keep running.

The world is racing to bring the Sun to Earth

Nuclear fusion is the process that powers the Sun and the stars. In a fusion power plant, two forms of hydrogen, deuterium and tritium, fuse into helium and release a fast neutron. Each reaction frees millions of times more energy than any chemical reaction, and about 80% of it is carried away by the neutron.

Those neutrons carry the fusion energy out of the plasma and strike the surrounding blanket.

WHAT A BLANKET DOES

One system.
Two jobs.

Breeds tritium from lithium, so the plant produces more fuel than it burns.

FUEL

Captures the energy of fusion neutrons as high-grade heat for electricity generation.

POWER

When fusion neutrons interact with lithium inside the blanket, they generate fresh tritium, which is recovered, purified, and returned to the reactor. This closed fuel cycle enables continuous operation without relying on external tritium supplies.

The blanket is both the power conversion system and the fuel production system of a fusion power plant.
Together with the reactor core, it completes the fusion fuel cycle.

ENGINEERING CHALLENGE

Built for conditions no existing industry has faced

Decades of continuous operation under fusion neutron flux, in contact with flowing liquid metal, with every gram of tritium accounted for.
